I'm not a vet. I took two of mine for their vaccinations today, and the vet
told me they had a bit of earwax in their ears, deeper than we can actually
clean. He didn't think anything of it, but just said to make sure to put
enough cleaner in there so that it sounds 'squishy' when you massage their
ears. I may not be putting enough ear cleaner in their ears, so that may be
your case too. Unless there's something else going on.

Mites will cause a build up of really icky, dark, blackish, wax.. or very
dark orange wax. So keep that in mind when you clean.

I never, EVER put anything IN their ears but for the ear cleaning solution.
Once the solution's squished around a bit and they give their heads a good
shake, I clean the outside of the ears.

I was also told today that he (our vet) recommends cleaning their ears no
less than once a week, meaning, once a week is what he considers minimum.
