As for the pumpkin, we just buy a can of unseasoned, plain pumpkin from the grocery store. We then divide it up into 4 small amounts and freeze it, pulling out one container at a time. You don't need to use a lot of pumpkin for each meal, and it starts to get moldy in the fridge after about a week, which is why we only keep a small amount in the refridgerator at any given time. Any brand of plain pumpkin should be fine, but we usually use Libby's.

I also heartily endorse the use of slippery elm bark powder. I mix it in our ferrets' soup every day. Just a little bit, maybe 1/3 of a teaspoon in a bowl of soup for 4 ferrets, but it is so good at helping any and all gastro-intestinal problems, and it helps to firm up the poops as well. We've found it helpful in dealing with both ulcers and IBD, and also as 'preventive maintenance' for otherwise healthy ferrets.
