I buy slippery elm bark powder from our local health food store and mix it into our ferrets' soup every day. You only need to use a little bit. Rather than buy it in capsules and have to open capsules every time, I buy it from the 'bulk herbs' section of the health food store, meaning that I scoop it from a small bin into a plastic baggie, then pay for it based on the weight. I fill about half of a small baggie, it costs about $3, and it lasts for a long, long time, since I only use about 1/3 of a teaspoon in total for four ferrets each time they get soup.
