Dear Bobbi:

An age here would help. Are we talking about increased volume or
increased frequency? Increased frequency is often the realm of adrenal
disease, either due to concurrent prostatic disease (as Sukie
mentioned) or possibly due to a reversion to intact behavior, where he
is scent marking.

An increase in quantity suggests the possibility of inherent kidney
disease, resulting in an ability to concentrate urine, or in rare
cases, diabetes mellitus. Use of prednisone also can result in
increased urination due to inhibition of renal concentration (actually
inhibition of a hormone called anti-diuretic hormone.)

With kindest regards,

Bruce Williams, DVM
