Subject: [ferrethealth] Bear

Itis with a very sad and heavy heart that I write this
email. Late this afternoon, after battling insulinoma
for the past 2 years, Bear finally lost his battle. I
found him early this morning very lifeless in the
middle of the floor. My attempts to bring him around
failed, so off to the vet we went. They put an iv in
him and gave him as much dextrose as they could. He
perked up and seemed much better after an hour or so.
At the time, his BG was 40. Bear managed to get his
iv out and within about 20 min his BG had dropped to
29 and he was pretty much in the same lifeless state
he was in this morning. My husband and I spent the
afternoon with him and made the difficult decision to
let him go.
Bear blessed our lives for the past 7 years and gave
us more joy and love than we could have ever imagined.
We want to thank everyone on this list for the advice
and the words of comfort you have all provided.
I'm sure I'll still lurk on the list as we have 3
other ferrets that are still with us - Bailey, Gizzie
and Gonzo. And of course, Gonzo has dilated
cardiomyopathy, so it's a pretty safe bet I'll be
posting in the future.
