Subject: [ferrethealth] Vaccines?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I have two ferrets, Bonnie and Clyde.
I have had Clyde for a little while now, he is a little over 4 months old.
I am debating about get him vaccinated. He doesn't leave the house, and he's not really around any animals other than the other ferret, Bonnie. I'm just not sure that it's worth the risk of him having a bad reaction to the vaccine. My mom used to have skunks and her friend, who also had skunks, had a skunk die from getting her Distemper vaccine. She stopped getting her skunks vaccinated and never had a problem with it.
And I know that we should have the rabies done in case they bite someone but again, we don't take them out of the house. They are only around me, my boyfriend, and our family. If we do take them in public anywhere, we keep people from touching thier face so they can't bite. And we don't even take them out that often.
Is there any reason why they absolutely should be vaccinated? Has anyone else decided not to vaccinate thier ferrets?
Thanks!!
Ashley, Dale, Bonnie, and Clyde
