If you don't vaccinate:
Leave your shoes outside if you do not vaccinate.
The Canine Distemper Virus lives for anywhere from a half hour to hours on clothing or
shoes depending on temperature and humidity -- much, much, much longer if frozen.
If you interact with other animals that can get Canine Distemper be sure to change
clothing and wash throughly.
Don't let anyone who may have been interacting with an animal who might have canine
distemper interact with your ferrets.
Do not have your ferrets anywhere near or downwind of any animal who can get canine
distemper who is sneezing or coughing.
Remember that in the past there have been problems with people accusing ferrets of
having caused injury when none happened at all. For some reason ex-boyfriends and ex-
girlfriends were pretty big for a while on having their ex's ferret's destroyed for claimed
bites and claimed rabies worries. Now the vaccine and its reliability is fully recognized in
ferrets, but only if they are vaccinated within a year; otherwise the options are difficult,
long, costly, and not offered by all states.
