The vets I have dealt with (and all were very ferret savvy) did not recommend it ...in heart failure the fluid (ascites) leaks out into the abdominal cavity, and when additional meds do not help the kidneys to remove the fluid any longer, the exerts pressure on the internal organs and the diaphragm, making it hard to breath. The reason all have given for NOT removing the fluid (esp. in a ferret) is that (1) it comes right back and (2) that actually causes the ferret to become severely dehydrated, causing problems of it's own. Years ago, my mom's vet told her the same thing, when we rushed her little dog to the vet for the same reason ....
