Subject: [ferrethealth] Boris - lethargic and dribbling
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Our hob Boris has been lethargic and intermittently dribbling for one
week and showing weakness in his back legs although his coat condition
is excellent.
A week ago he had an injection of antibiotic and has had further liquid
antibiotic solution twice a day but still remains the same.
He is entire and lives with three jills and two months ago went and
serviced a friend's jills as well.
I am wondering if he is generally out of condition but I am erring on
the side of caution because our previous hob died of an overwhelming
infection that we did not catch early enough.
Any suggestions please?

[From WHERE and WHAT is he dribbling, please? That matters. If
it is urine then even though it is not common for a whole ferret
to have adrenal disease it can happen and they certainly can get
other problems such as bladder ones and testicular ones. If it is
musk then an infected anal gland has to be considered among possibilities.
If he is dribbling saliva (drooling) then insulinoma needs to be considered
among the possibilities.

If he has an infection remember that too little antibiotic or the wrong
antibiotic is not going to work; undermedicating breeds stronger bacteria.
He'd need at least one full run of appropriate antibiotics. What antibiotic
is given only twice a week? How many mg?

Has he been to the vet?

Please, post with more details. -- Mod]
