Subject: [ferrethealth] Kidney Failure Questions
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I have searched the web and looked through the archives and I have some
questions I didn't find answers to. If anyone can help I would
appreciate it.
This is the info I found:
"The ferret's BUN, creatinine, urine specific gravity, and hepatic
enzymes should be monitored closely. However, the
serum creatinine level alone may not accurately reflect the presence of
renal failure in ferrets".
Is the above statement still the current thinking on how best to
monitor kidney function?
What would be the best way to monitor kidney function in a ferret who
has to be 'knocked out' to get blood and who really shouldn't be put
under due to other health problems at age 7.6 years?
Thank you for your help,
Sharon
