Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Kidney Failure Questions
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Different problem, but when we had to monitor
Hilbert during his hydronephrosis the consulting
veterinary renal specialist said to mostly just
check his urine specific gravity a lot, The more
he was able to concentrate urine, the less we had
to worry. His was an acute problem, though, and
his condition at that point was critical and later
serious as he improved, so I don't know if that
would be useful for your ferret.
Is this a ferret known to have kidney problems or
are his kidneys not a known worry?
If he has chronic kidney problems is his diet being
managed:

and be careful that he drinks enough; some need
extra. Hilbert had to have about twice the normal
intake of water during his illness.
