Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: lymphangioma
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

My little 1 year old ferret was just in for her yearly checkup, and she
seemed very tired, and very thin. The vet found a marble sized lump next to
her intestines. He too was unsure what to do, so he started her on a
mixture of two antibiotics that didn't seem to do anything. He did a biopsy
and found that it is her lymph node infected and inflammed. I am almost
positive he called it lymphanioma when the biopsy results came back. Since
then she has been on a sulfa type of antibiotic, and she seems to be doing a
bit better. The lab wanted to test for a specific type of bacteria in her
intestines that may have caused this infection, but as of yet I have no
results from that test. Even if it is not found to be that bacteria, they
are starting her on a round of antiobiotics with "cyclene" in the name.
Although that is targeted to kill that type of bacteria, he thinks it may
kill whatever is in her intestines now, even if not that specific type. I
am not sure if any of this will help your situation, but maybe it will be
helpful to your vet in what to do next.
Once I see the vet again, I will have more specific information, names, etc.
