Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Orange pee, red poops
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Drew seemed better this afternoon, no more red poops. They were
liquidy, red like kool aid red, clear not thick, but now they are
back to normal color, not formed yet, but better than they were.

My girlfriend is the most experienced ferret person I know, she runs
a ferret shelter in Nevada. My kids are used to going to "Aunty
Linda's", but when they are there for a couple of weeks, Drew seems
to take some time to re-adjust. The kibbles are the same, plus she
has a few more kind than I use, because she never knows what kind of
kibble the next rescue will be on. My soup has much more protein in
it, I cook down a whole chicken and puree the whole thing, bones and
all. Is there a thing as too much protein for a ferret, especially
for an older one? I'm wondering if it will just take a little bit for
him to get used to his usual soup. I got 35cc of soup down him this
afternoon, so I felt better that he was taking more in.

I give him the sub Q myself. He got 40cc this afternoon, and this
evening he looks better. I have the whole set up, and buy the
butterfly needles and fluids from the vet, she feels comfortable with
me doing it myself.

The pee is still orange, like school bus yellow orange, though
tonight they do seem lighter in color, probably because of the fluids.

Could the spleenectomy have anything to do with this problem? He
recovered fine, better than I thought he would.

Thanks for all the help. I think I will start him on some carafate,
maybe his tummy will feel better.
