Subject: [ferrethealth] Nursing Jill and Baytril (Enroflaxin)
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I would like to hear comment on anyone's opinion if it is safe to give a nu=
rsing jill Baytril?=A0
My jill has had a lump on one of her mammary glands since before the birth.=
=A0 She developed the lump the first time she bred, but she had a false pre=
gnancy and the lump completely went away.=A0 After she bred the second time=
(this time succesfully), the lump came back.=A0 The mass is right under he=
r skin, but is apparently hormonal in nature.=A0 We tried to see if there w=
as fluid in it to extract, but nothing came out.=A0 She just gave birth on =
Monday, July 28th and her lump increase a lot in size on the day of her lab=
or.=A0 It has stayed the same currently the day after, but the color is mor=
e purple than it was before so I took her in to be looked at.=A0 She has be=
en on Ditrim and amoxi-drops, but the vet didn't like the way the lump look=
ed so he wants her to go on Baytril for 5 days (1/4 th a 22mg pill twice a =
day).=A0
I=A0am reading that pregnant animals shouldn't receive this because it can =
cause damage to the bones of the young.=A0 I don't want to harm the babies,=
but I don't want to harm the mother either.=A0 The lump doesn't seem to bo=
ther her, and the babies have been nursing off of her other nipples just fi=
ne.=A0
Does anyone have any advice?
