This may also be mastitis. Here is a link to an excerpt from Fox's
seminal text - Biology and Diseases of the Ferret - on mastitis:

It is technical but gives a very good description of the two types of
mastitis ferrets are prone to and the recommended treatment. If you
can't access this link, send me an email and I'll scan the page from
the text, which I have and I'll send it to you.

It is unlikely that it is cancer from your description.

Fox also recommends that you may need to do supplemental hand feeding
of the kits with milk replacer.
