Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Pumpkin recipe
To: "FHL" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

It really isn't a recipe: Use only PLAIN canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix. Start by mixing 1 part pumpkin to 2 or 3 parts duck soup, and if your fuzzy likes it, you can up it to equal parts of pumpkin and ducksoup. It is sweet, and most like it pretty well, and two of a friend's fuzzies would eat it straight ....

Since you asked: My personal experience has been that I have always added pumpkin to my basic duck soup recipe, and I have never had to give furball remedy. Out of 22 - 24 ferrets, not one has ever had furball issues. Also, because of it's high fiber, low GI (glycemic index), it is supposed to be OK for ferrets with insulinoma, per my ferret vet, and I have given it to my occasional ferret with insulinoma w/o problems. Hope this helps ...
