If I can find it there is a great video showing the lengths one
ferret would go to hide a computer mouse. The individual
needed to first get to it, then get it into the right position,
then climb (several times), then hide it under some objects
and carefully tuck it in so that it would not show. Ah, here
you go:

Some places we have found ferret stashes:

8 (Yes, EIGHT) feet up in the bedroom closet (heavy universal remote)
which she many times took up by climbing two racks of clothing on
Steve's side of the closet and then climbing onto the top shelf. Then
she would cross to my side of the closet and slash her way down like
a person (Douglas Fairbanks stunt double?) descending a sail on a
pirate's ship in one of those 1930s movie by holding two blades
pierced through the sail (or in this case shredded dresses).

She would do the same descent on lace curtains after balancing things
atop the curtain rod in the bedroom.

Because we have Shaker pegs hung over the closet doors she would also
climb to those and put things atop the bedroom door (ouch when they
fell).

Less athletic was her climbing bedroom shelves and hiding an $800 pair
of back up corrective glasses behind the baskets of sewing stuff for a
few years. (Ironically, after found they only had minor scratches and
my prescription had swung back almost identical to that correction so
the timing was perfect.)

a purse hidden behind a door we never closed

assorted items hidden under drawers by a ferret who found the assembly
access hole in the back and then noticed that the drawers did not go
all the way back. (Dealing with this means bending a coat hanger into
a hook and working it under the drawer then finding the access opening
and closing it.)

Also useful for

Dangerous places:
if the stove is hardwired in the ferret can get into the walls. MANY
builders do this to to save pennies. Get an electrician in and have a
face plate attached securely and a plug put on stove. We had that
problem. Some people have found places like this in kitchens in
places where the cabinets don't meet each other or the walls and there
is just the rubber runner. You must get down on the floor to find
these places. We have two like that but in our case there is finished
wall around them so they are hide-aways but not any danger. In the
first place we lived our first ferret found where mice had eaten a
hole by an outlet. Other people have mentioned finding such holes by
plumbing (details?).

Behind, in, or under a major appliance is very dangerous. Ferrets
have been under, behind, and even in stoves (including in the places
with insulation), fridges, and more. We use cage wire to shut off the
base of our refrigerator while still allowing the ventilation that
MANY appliances require for safety's sake. We can remove it ourselves
for cleaning but the ferrets can't remove it. Check with an expert on
appliances and your town's fire marshall to find out how to safely
tackle these sorts of problems.

Places we never thought they could fit like between bookcases and walls

Inside a pasta pot in a cabinet we did not know they could open

Ferret Proofing links (just a quick Google search since I lack time to
check these. There are 854,000 results for that term so there are
plenty more):

(warning: the online version is no good for people with poor
eyesight; when enlarged the lines overlap, so print and use
magnifier if in that situation)

"Ferret Proofing"

Hmmm, I came upon this product by accident in this search and wonder
if it will work for the poster here who has a cord chewer:
