Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:Muscle tumors of the pyloris; any vet ever removed the pyloris?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

xxxxxxx and Everyone,

My ferret Cubby had a tumor in the pyloric region. The first sign was enlargement of the spleen followed by decreased appetite, eventually to the point that she would hardly eat on her own. During exploratory surgery, the vet found the pyloric region to be thickened by tumor growth in the walls, and he removed as much as he could to allow the passage of food. The biopsy results came back benign. I don't know the type of tumor- whether muscle was involved or not. Cubby had a very hard recovery. She was in critical care for almost a week with pain and fever. It took a while, but she bounced back completely.

Hope this helps. I can try to dig out Cubby's medical records if more detail could be of use.
