Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Possible damage to the sciatic nerve
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

These are my thoughts:
1. First of all, if you are not confident in the knowledge of your
vet, then you need to find someone else. As with people, if you are
not confident in the capabilities of your physician, then you are
not receiving the best care.
2. As far as the nerve, he may have hit a nerve giving the
injection, especially if he did not go into the "meatier" part of
the thigh, and it may not necessarily be "severed." Prednisone has
anti-inflammatory properties and should help bring the inflammation
down if the nerve was hit giving the injection. I would say it
would take about a week to 10 days to see a change back to normal.
I would say that after 10 days, you will know more about what kind
of damage was done. I would also lean more toward an inflammation
of the nerve from the injection since he is putting a little more
weight on his leg.
