Subject: [ferrethealth] Melatonin/Lurpon
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
After going through the archives on this site and reading numberous
articles elsewhere on the web I am more confused than ever.
My 4 adrenals are currently on Melatonin implants and are doing quite
well. But yesterday someone told me that the implants are a waste of
money because they stop working after 6 months and are only cosmetic.
They said Lupron was the way to go. Is there anyone who has had
success with the implants passed 6 months?
Wouldn't the Lupron eventually stop working too? At some point the
adrenal is going to win. I just assumed that Lupron and the implants
are just slowing the disease and buying them some time.
I also keep hearing that all ferrets younger than one year should get
a yearly Lupron shot, and you can do the same for older ferrets if
the disease has not started. But I've also read that this only helps
if the ferret gets the shot before he turns one . . .
What is the lifespan for untreated adrenal? If I can buy them a few
more good months after that I'll be happy.
Thanks,
Lisa
