Time to do pathology work and skin scraping, I think. I do NOT know
which of these might cause keratoses to form, and that does look
and sound like it could keratosis, but a solitary one. They usually
are not solitary. See my post sent already on keratoses. Was there
any injury to the area, or is there a possible large splinter?

The swelling has me concerned.

If you go to the very easily used and well designed FHL Archives:

http://ferrethealth.org/archive/

and search under:
paws and swollen
and later can also try:
feet and swollen
in the box labelled:
Search Message Body For
you will find info on several *treatable* conditions that can
cause swelling of the paws, including but not limited to the
ones below and having those names gives you search words
for more detailed searching. Simple!

Cutaneous lymphoma (which CAN be treated more successfully
than other forms if it is just among the things for which testing
is done)

So, that means that individual searches can be done on
