Subject: [ferrethealth] tumor in the perianal area
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Is there any new or encouraging information about tumors in this
region? I have a 7 year old ferret with a fast growing lump on her
butt that my vet initially thought might be an impacted anal gland. No
such luck - aspiration showed cancer cells. Research online comes up
with this probably being an apocrine tumor (based mainly on location),
with an extremely grim outlook.

However, most information I found was a few years old (except for one
reference to a new study, also with a poor outcome). So - has anything
changed with the prognosis for these? There's not really time for a
biopsy to confirm further details, and based on what I've found I'm
leaning towards keeping her comfortable and then taking her for a
final trip to the vet.

Thanks
