Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Melatonin, adrenal panel, Lupron and cardiac?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello Marie-Agnes,
The University of Tennessee is the only place that
I know of that runs the ferret specific adrenal panel.
no, the test does not tell you how advanced things are.
It just tells you how elevated the adrenal hormones are.
Yes, melatonin may cause a problem with the
Tennessee panel. Melatonin will lower the hormones
that the Tenn panel is testing. I do not know how long
in advance you would have to stop giving melatonin before
the hormones will increase. However I would not recommend
stopping his treatment. No reason to let the disease get worse
just to verify the disease. Yes, you can use Lupron with melatonin,
so I would suggest adding Lupron to his treatment. NO, Lupron
does not cause any cardiac problems. Also your vet can order the
melatonin implants in Canada. I know Dr Paradis at the U of Montreal
uses them (in dogs). Your vet can contact her or Melatek (melatek.net)
about ordering the implants.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
