Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with tip of urethra looking pink
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I'm taking Foster in on Friday morning at 9.15 for a check up but
wanted to post this to the list for any input members/vets might have
since now I'm getting nervous.

Foster is a non Marshall's ferret (purchased as a kit in Arizona from
pet store in late 2004)who developed adrenal issues and had surgery
(complete removal) of left adrenal in July of 06. He has been on
lupron 2mg. since. He had missed his 4 month June 08 lupron shot
(error on his vet bill schedule and I missed it) - and was taken in
for an exam in July, a blood sample for the adrenal panel, and then an
ultrasound to see if his lethargy and lack of appetite might be caused
by tumors/lymphoma.

The vet noticed that he was late for his lupron, per his office chart.
The ultrasound, and a spleen biopsy (she noticed it was large) showed
no obvious signs of lymphoma. She called me a few days later - there
were signs of adrenal disease once more. She figured it was his late
lupron which had allowed disease in his remaining adrenal.

After his ultrasound in July - he was shaved - I noticed the tip of his
urethra was pinkish. I thought maybe that was normal and that usually
the fur on his belly covered it. However, I noticed recently when
picking him up that despite the full fur, there is still a small
pinkish look to the tip, and it protrudes very slightly. As well, I
notice that he appears to have a slightly protruding anus. I haven't
compared this to the others today, but noticed that in the past it has
shown to be a little "bulgy" in a few of the girls occasionally.

I hope my vet can figure out what is going on - she's a great
ferret/exotic vet. His recent behavior (after the lupron and
supplemental feeding back in July) has been pretty normal. I looked
though the archives and saw that bleeding can be caused by UTI's or
stones in the bladder. But he does not strain when he pees and his
urine looks normal. His poops are fine too. He's as active as usual.
It seems kind of like a small symptom - but of course he's a ferret.
