Subject: [ferrethealth] ferret unwell: foot, past brain abscess diagnosed
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here is able to offer some advice. We
got an 8 week old ferret to join our group of 2 females and a male
(all spayed, neutered) About 4 weeks ago we went out and she was very
ill looking, she looked all twisted and wasn't moving about at all, we
rushed her the vets. He said it was an internal abscess pressing
against her brain. She was given a 50:50 chance of survival and an
injection of anti inflammatory/anti biotic she had one a day for 6
days and seemed to improve. Although never back to 100% she looked
bright eyed and almost looked and acted normal.

This week she seems to have deteriorated again, when we go out the
others all run out their bedding area and she often doesn't appear we
have to open the bedding area and get her out, she isn't looking as
bright. What I have noticed is her 2 right feet are swollen looking.
Although not in pain she just isn't right when you think what a
ferret should be like. My dad thinks the kindest thing to do would be
put her to sleep. What i'm wondering does anyone have any idea of
what is actually wrong with her and is there anything that can be done?

Not sure if this photo will work, but this is her foot, it does look
worse in the photo. When we put her down on the grass her tail does
puff up and she is still walking about
