Subject: [ferrethealth] Prednisone vs Prednisolone
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

A vet on another animal health list I am on, explained the difference
between prednisone and prenisolone. I am passing it on because I
think she explained it more clearly than I have heard it before.

"if the liver is able to process the prednisone, you are not going
to "over-work" it. If the liver function is compromised, it
simply will not be able to process the drug, and the drug is never
converted to its active form (prednisolone), and therefore the drug
won't work."

[Moderator's Note:
Yes, that is why if there is any chance of liver compromise,
discovered or not discovered, Prednisolone will work
better than Prednisone. In fact, Prednisone might not
work at all if the liver is compromised while Prednisolone
could work wonderfully.]
