I just learned a very interesting thing from Dr. Bruce Williams. While
there are textbook normals there also are LABORATORY SPECIFIC
NORMALS. I ***guess*** those vary according to how they do their
processing, when they do their processing (Delays in
processing ferret blood can lower blood glucose readings, for
example), and other factors.
He advises making sure that the lab is used to dealing with ferret
specimens. If it is not then two in the U.S. which are are North West
Zoopath, and Antech -- but those are just hired ones I can think of off
the top of my head that currently exist:
http://www.antechdiagnostics.com/
http://www.zoopath.com/
and I recall these two because they are ones we've paid for great
work on our own ferrets. In fact, I found out about NW Zoopath
originally due to a recommendation from Dr. Bruce Williams.
Then find out what the norms are for the ferret-knowledgeable lab
being used.
Dr. Bruce Williams is himself a ferret expert veterinary pathologist and
and expert on e-medicine, top of the line in both fields, and has
been educating other veterinary pathologists, so when he gives a tip
you know it pays to take it seriously.
