I have a large plastic container with uncooked long grain rice in it,
about 20 pounds for mine to dig in. I should add more rice to the
box. Clever people put the lid on and cut a hole for a pvc pipe so
that rice can't be thrown all over the place but their ferrets can go
in and out, I'm not so clever. Rice is easy to clean up. Be sure it's
the plain long grain. Some use the biodegradable packing peanuts,
they can cause real icky poop if they start eating it. Some shred
newspaper for theirs to dig in as well. I've heard of some using
beans, I'm not certain which. Just be sure to see if he is playing in
it and not eating it.

My boy also likes to play in a large plastic wather dish that I have
in the bathtub filled with water. I toss some balls in it and he
enjoys digging at them too.
