Hi Cherie,
I would be cautious about any over the counter flea products.
Revolution if given at a correct dose (determined by your vet) is
very safe. It doesn't have to be given exactly in the scruff area -
but someplace where you can part the fur and place it directly onto
the skin, someplace where the ferret is not likely to lick at it. It
is such a small amount that you would apply that I am sure you will
find a tiny patch of skin that hasn't been scratched and irritated. I
agree that it shouldn't be applied to an area with sores. It is also
absorbed fairly quickly.
Fleas will breed in cracks and crevices, in dusty areas of the home,
in carpeting, etc. However, a thorough vacuuming, diligently every
day; washing the floors (with a non-toxic, pet friendly cleaner) and
especially washing corners and under dressers, beds, anywhere dust
balls collect - plus treating your animals for fleas - should get rid
of them without the necessity of spreading toxic substances in your
home.
