Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret Neg for Adrenal but still balding?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Vet has confirmed my Jak-Jak is roughly 5 years old, has tested neg
for Adrenal but he's still balding. Vet wants to wait til December
to test again as it may be shelter syndrome (?) and he sufferes from
rat tail? Vet told me to cover his cage unless it is playtime so he
may sleep better. He came from a home with 3 noisy dogs and a 3 year
old constantly bothering him. I have had him three weeks now. He is
in a quiet (compared to his old home) room with dim lighting during
the day and cage covered. I'm currently feeding Marshalls ferret
food and am ording Totally Ferret for Older ferts food to switch him
to. Any thoughts? The ferret has become increasingly active in my
home, potty habbits improved (uses box better). We found he has a
chipped canine, our vet says he doesn't seem bothered by it but he is
drinking more since switching to a water bowl.

Although he is acting more and more like a ferret with us each day I
wonder if I could do more??

He came bald top of tail, toes and to the high point of his back,
hair is back along the spine and on toes but he is losing along his
neck. Vet suggested seasonal coat change? He said some ferrets go
almost bald during a shed?

Thanks for any who can help, oh yes, he was eating dog food at his
old home.

Kathy and Jak-Jak (who has not had a non-adrenal baldy before)
