Subject: [ferrethealth] Diarrhea puzzle - **please** help!!!
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I am looking for some suggestions on what to do here.=A0 I have a 1 1/2 yr =
old male ferret Gus, adopted in April.=A0 When he was at the shelter,=A0he =
was on Totally Ferret, 8in1 Ultimate, and Evo.=A0 He had normal poops.=A0 S=
hortly after I adopted him (and his cagemate), Gus found=A0a stash of Chewe=
asels.=A0 These Cheweasels were stashed in different spots by a ferret I ha=
d previously lost - he hardly ever ate them, but would stash them from spot=
to spot, so they were probably pretty old.=A0 When Gus would find one, he'=
d eat it whole... then get diarrhea.=A0 So I collected all of them up so he=
couldnt find anymore.=A0 Now this all happened back in April, and I'm pret=
ty sure he had normal poops when he first got here - until he started findi=
ng Cheweasels.=A0 But for as long as I can remember, he's been having on ag=
ain/off again either diarrhea or *very* runny soft poops.=A0 We've done the=
fecal tests, been on Metronidazole, Clavamox... tried pumpkin, Slippery El=
m
Bark.=A0 I tried changing foods, done just chicken BF, lamb BF...=A0 Given=
all of this plenty of time to work, if it was going to work at all.=A0 Not=
hing has.
=A0
I've asked 2 different vets about doing stool cultures... they dont think i=
ts worth it.=A0 Right now, he's on a med called Pancreved (which is digesti=
ve enzymes).=A0 This is now Day 4 on this, and his poops are back to totall=
y seedy runny diarrhea.=A0
=A0
I also had taken him outside shortly after I adopted them, and he was diggi=
ng.=A0 Asked vets about this, they dont think it caused anything.=A0
=A0
The next step vet suggested trying was Hill's (KD I think it was called - b=
ut its the allergy kind).=A0 But that doesnt seem like that would=A0help ei=
ther, since, his poops were normal at the shelter (he's on 8in1 ultimate he=
re - one of the kinds he was on at the shelter).
=A0
Thru out all this, he's maintained his weight, but its only becuz he's eati=
ng constantly, and even when his poops arent diarrhea (when they're their s=
oft and runny), he goes about at least 3 times as much as my other ferrets.=

=A0
Doing a stool culture seems like a good idea to me (but the vets dont think=
so, but they'd do it if I insisted)...=A0 this has gone on way too long fo=
r my little guy.=A0=A0It seems he's constantly at the litter boxes and then=
refilling up on food again.=A0=A0I'm=A0begging for some help for my Gus.=
=A0 =A0Please if anyone has run across something like this, please help.=A0=
Any suggestions will be very appreciated!=A0
