Andrea,
I had one thought but wanted to post it to group incase it's not a good idea and others can give feedback. Hearing that he's needing to eat (and then go) so often to get the nutrition he needs, would it maybe help his body to give him a higher protein duck soup mix to get the nutrients he needs, unless the extra protein would be hard on his system. I was thinking maybe you could ask your vet about adding something like the science diet canned A/D supplement or something similiar.
