To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

How old is Alfie?

DIM occurs in ferrets up to 1 year old I believe, correct me if I am wrong?=
=A0 So if he is older than that, I would say you don't have to worry about =
DIM- also, DIM is a very fast moving disease.=A0 A member of another ferret=
board I am on had a ferret that was fine one day, and then later that nigh=
t- his ferret went downhill fast and passed away in his arms within a few h=
ours of seeming to be sick.=A0 I was up late on the site that night, (this =
was the night before I had to help my little guy Boomer to the Rainbow Brid=
ge) and we got to talking and he was afraid it was a urinary blockage, but =
it couldn't be with the ferret only being like 8 months old I think- so I s=
tarted thinking outside the box and looked up the symptoms of DIM, and he h=
ad numerous symptoms of DIM.=A0 Honestly- within 6-8 hours of him acting si=
ck, he passed away.=A0 I don't think you need to worry about DIM. (in my op=
inion)

Good luck with the jaw!=A0 And I see you are feeding a very soupy version o=
f Carnivore Care (I used to feed a VERY soupy version to my Boomer when he =
was having peeing issues to ensure he was getting a lot of fluids and I cou=
ld see if he was outputting a lot of fluids) but maybe you could try some G=
erber's Stage 2 baby food?=A0 Mine always liked the Chicken in chicken grav=
y, or the turkey in turkey gravy.=A0 Just be sure you get 100% meat based..=
..no veggies or rice!=A0 It is a good consistancy that you might be able to=
get him to eat it.=A0 Just put a bit on a spoon and tilt his head back to =
let it drip in?

Thanks, guys. I have to say that that story about the DMK guy

actually made me cry. How beautiful!

One vet I spoke with did suggest a feeding tube, but only to discard

the idea. She said he'd probably fidget with it too much. I agreed,

but when I got to thinking about it I wasn't so sure anymore. I mean,

he can't really bite it, can he?
