Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: What is best way to use lancet for BG? update on ferret with pink urethra
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I don't have instructions anywhere but it's really very easy to do. I
use a lancet device, set on the highest setting. Squeeze the tail tip
gently and lance (anywhere). It can be done on hairy tails (with some
practice, it's just a matter of holding the hairs back) or the tip can
be shaved.

I actually started doing this years ago with my Sadie Mae. She was a
little thing, barely 1 pound, and full of hellfire. She needed testing
but there was simply no way to obtain the sample from her tiny toes.
One day, while attempting yet again to gain a sample and feeling
horrible for "torturing" her, her balding (from adrenal) tail caught
my eye. I thought, hmmm. Well, it worked....and she didn't even
notice. I've tested all of my kids in this manner since. My vet was
impressed with the method and now also uses it.

It's as simple as grabbing the tail and poking. Very easy to do.

Good luck! :)
