Hope no-one thought I suggested to file off toes - which is how my
last post reads. I should have written "file off some of the calloused
skin" - which is what the original reference said.
However, thinking back, of three ferrets I last tried to get a sample
from, one (soft toes) was easy using Pam Sessom's method, one (soft
toes) wouldn't let me - would quit drinking the ferretone and kept
flinching, and one, Xena (the rough toe pads) it took three tries, she
struggled even when held, and I still could not get a good drop. I
think five have soft feet, and just Xena has thickened paw skin. The
tail method sounds worth a try to me.
