Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: What could my baby have died of?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Ah, i'd been thinking this was a female. (So much for my memory.) As
a male this ferret could have had a urinary blockage secondary to adrenal
disease from prostate enlargement. That CAN be a first symptom and
it is not unusual for it to present suddenly with complete blockage. As
with uroliths the swollen bladder would press against the intestines
and also could press against some other structures and even parts of
the blood supply. (That is unless the vessels are too protected in ferrets -- not
having done dissections on ferrets i don't know but something that I
think I might want to do at some point IF time, my hands, and my eyes
allow, and if some wonderful vet student doesn't do one first, is to
compile a photographic comparative ferret dissector with real detail to
it. That would probably have to wait for a number of years, though, and
by then maybe a vet student will recognize the importance of creating
one and making it public.)
