Two possible scenarios not mentioned:
a viral infection can go to pancreas, liver, or both. In fact, if
it goes to the pancreas that can inflame the liver and vice
versa.
Another is that either pancreatitis or hepatitis can cause
nausea. Nausea increases the chances of inhaled vomit
which is one of the things that can cause aspiration
pneumonia, as can inhaled food (why the vets always
have us remind people to learn syringe feeding hands on.
Now, if I recall right, wasn't there a virus making the rounds
in your family, right, and it was respiratory?
