Subject: [ferrethealth] peppermint oil harmful to ferrets?

Here's my story: I am overrun with chipmunks in my finished basement.(I
open the door and they run right in front of me and the cat...)
I've been told to use oil of peppermint to get them to leave; of course
the ferret's cage is located there and is a built-in so I can't move it.
Will the oil annoy the ferrets as much as the chipmunks? (I want to put
it around outside entry ways and the outside foundation away from the
ferrets...)
Anyone know any other no-kill ways to get Chip and Dale out without
bugging my ferrets? Have any of those electronic pest repellers been
proven harmless to ferrets?
