We usually like to give times out, but sometimes use scruff and drag as Lisa does. Also, we
sometimes use scruff and stare, or even scruff and hiss, depending on what happened.
In something like 27 years with ferrets most learned to not nip, though we have one who
still likes to climb into my husband's pants legs and scratch or groom too hard for tender
skin. He's found that lightly -- very lightly so as to not startle her but just make her
wonder who is bumping her -- tapping on her little bum gets her to come out without
problems usually (though not always). That one also has a bad habit of now and then
digging feet. She's mostly wonderful, but messes up occasionally.
