Sometimes the body recognizes something as foreign and reacts to it.
In a sense it is like an allergic reaction but not in the traditional
sense. Some of these can be quite severe and look much worse then your
kids incision does. I usu try not to use the same suture material in
the same animal in the future. It is most likely the inner stitches
that are the problem not the skin ones but I don't really use skin
sutures in ferrets so I suppose it is possible.
