Hi,
I am a nurse not a vet but I do deal regularly with infectious
diarrhoea.
The precautions we take are disposable gloves and aprons when
actually giving care to the infected individual and of course hand
washing preferably before you leave the room. If this is not possible
you can get alcohol hand gels which will help but you still need to
use soap nd water before handling any other ferret as alcohol does
not kill all diarrhoea causing bugs.
It is very important to use a good hand washing technique, it is
amazing how much of our hands we miss normally. Use a ritualised
wash, wet hands first rub palms together, then interlock fingers so
you get all the gaps between them, rub ends of fingers and then
thumbs into your soapy palms (these are the most often missed areas
and the most dirty) then rub one palm over the back of the other
hand. Rinse thoroughly and make sure you dry them properly,
preferably with disposable paper towels, bugs can breed like mad on a
normal towel.
Keep his bedding separate and wash it in a hot wash with detergent.
Good luck I am sure with good hygiene you will be able to get this
little guy over his infection with no problem to our others.
