The vets on the FHL have asked us moderators to
remind people whenever syringe feeding comes
up that it is not to be done lightly or without hands
on training by a veterinary professional. Why? Because
if the ferret inhales some of the food then aspiration
pneumonia can occur. Unless someone is very well
trained in this and certain of her or his own abilities
then syringe feeding is best left for extreme situations
and then only after training.

Instead try smearing some of the food in the ferret's
mouth with your finger. Finger feeding is a very
useful technique.

As Kelly has pointed out heating the food gives it more
odor and makes it more appealing. We find they seem
to like it best at about their own body temperature:
around 102'F.

If a ferret is losing weight without cause then veterinary
care is needed, and likely some testing. What are the
particulars?

Here are some things to help you:

I don't have time to check the content of any of the ones
below to see how they read now or even see if they still
exist, but these are from an earlier post:

feed them some until they will willingly eat it from a bowl or the syringe. It takes a little
patience and maybe a few days. :)
