Subject: [ferrethealth] confussed owner needs help
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I was wondering if you could give us your opinions on our Oliver.
It first started when we noticed he had a very pot belly,
we took hin
to our vet who x-rayed him and said he had a suspishous large mass
and asked if to open him up and have a good look, witch he did. it
turned out that his Mesinteric Lymth gland was 5 times the size it
should have been. a biopsie was taken. thanklfuly it turned out to
be to be an infection that they said was a benign form of Lymphoma.
after the op he would'nt stop bleeding and had to be serdated to keep
him still anothe for it to stop. he also had quite a large bad bruse
that the vet beleave was bleeding upder the skin.
Thankfuly once he stopped bleeding he recovered quickly and his
glands went down over the next 6 weeks.
Next we descovered a mass on the skin of his back. turned out to be a
benin skin tumor witch I beleave is common in some ferrets. the
removeal of this went like clock work. But this is also when he
started to loss his fur. he has now been tested for Adreanal witch
has come back clear, and the vet thinks that it could be a stress
thing. I never thought it was Adreanal as he never showed any other
symptoms.
The other thing he has is he keeps stairing into space and bobbing
his head like he's nodding off. he does have polips in both of his
ears, and our vet beleaves that this is proberly what this is. he had
his glucos tested many times and it's always been fine. This seems to
be the thing that most effects him, as while out playing last night
he had about 10 of these epesodes and he was only in for about 15
mins. The vet does'nt want to remove them as there right next to his
ear drum. Our only option would be to remove his ear cannals witch
oviously would make him completely deaf. At the moment we are
reluctant to do this, as he already been through alot this year.
All through this he has eaten fine I even think he maybe eating more
than normal, he did'nt loss his winter weight and untill his fur loss
had'nt shed his winter coat iver. He is drinking fine and genraly a
happy bouncy ferret, when he is not head bobbing. Witch seems to be
getting worse.
I getting concerned about his quaity of life, as I have no idea what
he is feeling when he does his head bobbing.
heres a pic of him,

he a lovely ferret, such a fighter and when he in full coat a lovely
colour, he gets on with everyone, has even baby sat nine 10 week old
kits, it been braking my heart to see him like this.
Thanks for taking your time to read this.
