Hi Andrea,

Sorry to hear Gus is doing so poorly.

Was IBD diagnosed through a biopsy? I am asking because I am
wondering whether he may have EGE, a related autoimmune disease but
one that affects more than the GI tract.

Linguini was diagnosed with EGE last year (August 2007) with biopsies
taken from her stomach, liver, lymph nodes and bowel. When the
diagnosis was confirmed I was given 2 options in terms of diet - a
hypoallergenic food, like z/d or a super high protein food, like
Innova EVO Ferret.

I opted for the Innova EVO and so far it has worked for her. I also
supplement her diet with Innova EVO Cat 95% Duck (canned food), to
which I add 100% pure pumpkin. I mix this up with warm water into a
duck soup - a real duck soup!

Her stools improved remarkably after switching her to the Innova EVO
Ferret, although from other reports this food causes diarreah in some
ferrets. In her case it did the opposite. She went from having
frequent mucousy greenish clear blobs to more solid stools in a few
days. It probably took another month before her stools were normal.

When I added the canned duck to her diet she started gaining weight
and developed a silky coat.

Linguini also had an ulcer before the EGE was diagnosed and for which
she was treated.

Of course her condition is not IBD although both EGE and IBD attack
the intestinal tract. PBD is another bowel condition that is caused
by bacteria and also causes diarreah of the kind you describe. All of
these conditions require a biopsy to confirm.

Not sure this information will help your case but did want to mention
it in case it might be EGE rather than IBD.

There are medications for both conditions as well, but so far
Linguini's EGE has been controlled well with diet alone.

allergy food, did you see it go from bad to worse, and if it did work,
how long before they had normal stools again?
