A few things to keep on hand. corn syrup or nutrical, I use it for
Sabrina when she needs it. I mix it with a small amount of water and
use a syringe to get her to eat it. This must be used only in an
extreme emergency. It will help to get his glucose levels up quikcly,
but than you must make sure that he eats something or he will crash
worse than what he was at. I generally mix Marshall ferret food with
water and make a soup that I feed to Sabrina after she is able to
eat. I also keep Duk soup on hand, it is something that most ferrets
will eat when it is offered to them. It is high in protein so it is
a good thing to give to him after he is stabalized. Since it is a
powder, it is easy to store until needed. I try to use warm water
when making the Duk Soup as she tends to eat it better. Some things
to watch for are a confused look on their face, staggering walk (more
than the usual stagger) or not wanting to move around. I also watch
for wanting to sleep all the time while the others are off playing.
Other things that a vet will commonly ask are if they have been
throwing up or have tarry stools. It is still a good idea to get him
to a vet as soon as possible, his life depends on that. I hope that
this helps you with his care in an emergent situation.
