What works varies so much among individuals.
We had two diagnosed with the catch-all "IBD" --both males
and both in our family at the same time -- in our 27 years with
ferrets.
One had a hard youth and came here as a rescue who had so
many ticks on him when found that after something like 30 they
just stopped counting at the vets'.
The other had neural crest genetic variation markings with a lot
of body spotting, syndactyly, and some other deformations including
a constantly enlarging and more flaccid stomach, followed by his
small intestine doing the same thing.
One was helped a lot by having no poultry.
The other was helped most by Imuran (chemo), a very serious
approach which needs careful management, though he had no
problems from the med.
Both could also be set off badly by any dairy, in fact, after a touch of
heavy cream one needed several weeks of a huge number of meds on
very careful schedules and daily sub cu to just survive.
Both had times when what HAD worked stopped working and then
we'd have to try something else.
So, what works varies among individuals and what works for a while
for one individual may no longer work suddenly some time later. As
a result it pays to notice a range of possibilities and knowing that you
might have to try more than one approach over time if the case is a
serious enough one.
