Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:ZD allergy food/diarrhea question
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have had two ferrets w/IBD that were VERY difficult to manage symptoms
for. One worse than the other. I too tried Z/D and the Totally Ferret
Venison/Lamb formula.... as well as tons of meds that would only help for a period of
time, but symptoms would always return w/in two week after stopping meds.....

I finally had my luck using Vivify and Totally Ferret Baby Formula. The
totally Ferret Baby formula is VERY low in carbohydrates, which some vets feel
is the culprit or one of the culprits to IBD in ferrets..others feel there is
an allergy to chicken.

Both of my guys have been totally controlled for well over a year using
vivify and TF baby formula (which needs to be ordered online).

I started them out on vivify giving 5drops in the am, afternoon and pm.
They are now maintained on ...
1 guy...5drops am and 5drops pm and the other guy who was not as bad gets
5drops in the am only.

I had them both maintained for quite a long time using this regiment (food
change/vivify). Well over a year, almost two. They have since developed
insulinoma...so they are now also on a low dose of prednisilone, however the IBD
was controlled long before the insulinoma diagnosis was made and the pred
started. I see you tried Vivfy before....but I wonder how much you were giving.
You should not exceed 20drops in 1 day or it will cause loose stools.
Also, a food change will cause some loose stools at first.

Best of Luck
