Subject: [ferrethealth] pain medication for a puntured snout?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Our 8yo Charlie hit is nose against a door while it was being opened.
It was on the side and his lower incisor punctured up and though the
skin. We went to the vet who examined and gave a metacam shot to
reduce the swelling (which worked great) and clavamox. This was in mid
Aug. It closed and healed but somehow he reopened it on his own and we
went in again and he is on same now.

Is there some topical pain medication like Anbesol for teething babies
that can be given? Our vet was not aware, although she is very
experienced with ferrets. The first night he was very agitated and in
quite a bit of pain. I am asking to be ready for the future.

Unfortunately in these last 2 months he has been unwilling to eat
kibble yet, but his weight as stayed up and we are feeding canned Evo
rabbit 4x per day.
