Yes, and not all diseased adrenal glands get large enough to
show up on ultrasound.

We have also -- twice now (once long ago and once in the past year --
had a healthy adrenal appear diseased on ultrasounds. (Her actual
problem was reactive lymph nodes due to a bite infection for the latest
and no one knows why this ultrasound result happened with the
earlier ferret. The ultrasound she had was actually to check the nodes
provide guidance for a useful aspiration.) So, false positives can
occur as can the false negatives you mention.

If we have a really questionable ferret who might have an adrenal
growth but there is also reason to think that the ferret might not
we use the TN Panel, not an ultrasound.

On the other hand, if we need a heart checked, or a guided aspiration,
or some other things then ultrasound is the best choice, but for
adrenals we tend to find it a waste of money that is better used in
other veterinary care.
