I wouldn't have thought this before but it could be a hairball or
some other partial obstruction. My girl has been having problems with
varying poos since about February. Back then an xray showed her
intestinal track was full of gas. The meds cleared it up, then we
started going through these intermittant problems - anywhere from
mushy to watery and everything in between. I had changed her food
mix, added evening soup with pumpkin, gave her laxatone, stopped the
ferretone, nothing was helping. About two weeks ago she passed blood
and an icky mess that I didn't even look at, I just scooped it up.
When the vet dug at it she discovered it was the hairball from hell
(I swear it was at least an inch and a half long and as wide as my
pinky, if not more, and my girl is tiny). Vet was very surprised she
had been able to pass it. Ever since, I've kept her on the evening
soup routine, she gets a mix of both the turkey and original Totally
Ferret kibble, and laxatone every other day and so far she's fine.
I'm hoping it stays that way, though her last two xrays showed some
thickening of the intestinal wall, I'm not sure what that's all
about. For your guy barium would hopefully grab anything that's in
there if that happens to be the problem.
Another thing, my vet said something about testing her levels of
vitamin b this month when we go in for the yearly exam. I forget what
she said it would indicate, Sukie or one of the doctors may know
about that and could tell us more about what the test would reveal.
It's something else to ask you vets about.
Hope something is useful here and you find a solution soon.
